Galaxy® is a descended from the German variety Perle and became commercially available in 2009. Currently it is the most internationally recognized Australian hop variety. Galaxy® is a unique hop due to an amazingly intense and powerful aroma and high alpha. It can be used for bittering additions, but it shines when used as an aroma and flavor hop – the later the better for flavor intensity.
Its powerful, musky tropical fruit character is at home as a feature in American pale and IPA, wheat beer, saison, and Brettanomyces-fermented beers.
Aroma
The flavor is often quite intense upon production but mellows as it matures. Galaxy® contributes prominent citrus, passion fruit and peach aromas.
Alpha
The values represent the medium range of the past few years. Be aware that specific alpha values can vary in a broad range depending on the relevant crop year.
