Challenger is developed at Wye College – UK and was released in 1972. Therefore the Challenger is also known as Wye Challenger. It is very well related with in particular Northern Brewer. It is a versatile variety with wide application in both early and late kettle additions. Although it has limited acres elsewhere, most of this hop’s production remains in the UK.
Aroma
Challenger is an excellent all round hop with a refreshing, full bodied, rounded bitternes. Its flavor is smooth with balanced floral characteristics, some citrus and a dash of spice.
Alternatives
As an alternative, you could explore the Northern Brewer or for example a Perle.

The values represent the medium range of the past few years. Be aware that specific alpha values can vary in a broad range depending on the relevant crop year.
